This Sunday we look forward to the Transfiguration and I simply wanted to offer this painting by Lewis Bowman called Transfiguration and a Sonnet on the same subject by Malcolm Guite.

About his work he says, “I created this painting based on a scripture in Matthew 17:1-8 when Jesus took Peter, James and John on top of a high mountain. The scripture described His appearance being transformed into the brightness of the sun white as light. My goal in this painting was to keep it very abstract because it's really impossible to visually understand what that scene would look like if you where not there.” https://fineartamerica.com/featured/transfiguration-lewis-bowman.html

You may just want to ‘sit’ with this piece and see what God’s word might be to you….or read the sonnet as you look on it.

For that one moment, ‘in and out of time’,

On that one mountain where all moments meet,

The daily veil that covers the sublime

In darkling glass fell dazzled at his feet.

There were no angels full of eyes and wings Just living glory full of truth and grace.

The Love that dances at the heart of things

Shone out upon us from a human face

And to that light the light in us leaped up,

We felt it quicken somewhere deep within,

A sudden blaze of long-extinguished hope

Trembled and tingled through the tender skin.

Nor can this blackened sky, this darkened scar

Eclipse that glimpse of how things really are.
