Morning Prayer — Lent 2021

Penitential Rite

The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit: a broken and contrite heart,
O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:18.

Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbour.

Silence is kept.

Before God, with the people of God, we confess to our brokenness;
to the ways we wound our lives, the lives of others,
and the life of the world.

May God forgive us, Christ renew us, and the Spirit enable us to grow in love. Amen.

Opening sentences

Lord, open our lips
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to you, source of all being, eternal word and holy spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lord is full of compassion and mercy:
O come, let us worship.

Prayer for God’s help

Move among us, O God; give us life
Let your people rejoice in you

Make our hearts clean within us
Renew us in mind and Spirit

Give us again the joy of your help
With your spirit of freedom sustain us

Proclamation of the Word

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray as our Saviour taught us.
Our father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.

The Sending

May the peace of Christ go with you where He may send you.
May He guide you through the wilderness, and protect you through the storm.
May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you.
May He bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
