Drawn from many backgrounds and experiences,

All       God gathers us as one body.

Bringing our whole selves before our Maker,

All       God transforms us more and more into who we were created to be.

We stand together as people loved by God,

All       and who are called to love others in ordinary and extraordinary ways.

Come, let us worship together.    O Lord, open our lips
All       and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.   T

he night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.

Silence is kept.

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you; now and for ever.   Blessed are you, Sovereign God, creator of all, to you be glory and praise for ever. You founded the earth in the beginning and the heavens are the work of your hands. In the fullness of time you made us in your image, and in these last days you have spoken to us in your Son Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. As we rejoice in the gift of your presence among us let the light of your love always shine in our hearts, your Spirit ever renew our lives and your praises ever be on our lips. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

All       Blessed be God for ever.

The Psalm of the Day is said.

At the end of the Psalm, the following may be said.

Glory to God, Source of all being, eternal Word and Holy Spirit:

as it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen.

An appointed Reading from the Scriptures is read. At the conclusion, the following is said.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.

All        Thanks be to God.

The Benedictus (The Song of Zechariah) is said

All        In your tender compassion, O God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us.

1          Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel,  who has come to his people and set them free.

2          He has raised up for us a mighty Saviour,  born of the house of his servant David.

3          Through his holy prophets God promised of old  to save us from our enemies, from the hands of all that hate us,

4          To show mercy to our ancestors,  and to remember his holy covenant.

5          This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:  to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

6          Free to worship him without fear,  holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.

7          And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,  for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

8          To give his people knowledge of salvation  by the forgiveness of all their sins.

9          In the tender compassion of our God  the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

10        To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,  and to guide our feet into the way of peace.                                     Luke 1.68-79

All        Glory to God, Source of all being, eternal Word and Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen. In your tender compassion, O God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us.

Intercessions are offered

The Collect of the day is said

All       Amen.

(the Alternative form in the NZ Anglican Prayer Book is printed below)

All        Eternal Spirit, Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver, Source of all that is and that shall be, Father and Mother of us all, Loving God, in whom is heaven:   The hallowing of your name echo through the universe! The way of your justice be followed by the peoples of the world! Your heavenly will be done by all created beings! Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth.   With the bread we need for today, feed us. In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us. In times of temptation and test, strengthen us. From trials too great to endure, spare us. From the grip of all that is evil, free us.   For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord bless us, and preserve us from all evil, and keep us in eternal life.

All       Amen.

Let us bless the Lord.

All        Thanks be to God.
